The Class of 2028 recently served up some serious fun at their Pickleball Fundraiser! From impressive rallies to questionable athletic decisions, the event was a great way to bring our community together while supporting the Class of 2028.

A huge thank you to everyone who grabbed a paddle, joined the fun, and helped make the event a success.

On Friday, September 11th, the Apponequet Lakers took back the throne from the Middleborough Sachems in an exciting 21-13 victory. For seven years, the Sachems were undefeated to the Apponequet Lakers, but on Friday the Lakers broke the chain on Middleborough's home turf. 

The Lakers had an outstanding game with a proud performance from their senior running back Joe Procaccini, who accumulated all three touchdowns with an outstanding performance to put the Lakers on top. Procaccini teamed up with senior quarterback, Paxton Canessa, for all three touchdowns. 

Procaccini had 97 total yards worth of touchdowns broken down into three separate touchdowns. The first touchdown of the game was a 37-yard rushing touchdown giving the Lakers the lead. The second touchdown of the game was a team effort from the fantastic duo, a 59-yard reception for a touchdown. Canessa connected with Procaccini to give the Lakers a commanding lead over the Sachems. The third and final touchdown for Apponequet was a 1-yard rushing touchdown after they were previously stopped short of the goal line. 

This victory for the Lakers was one not just for the team, but for the community. Since 2019 the Lakers remained victoryless for seven years to the Sachems. The Sachems defeated the Lakers in the Division III Baseball State Championship game at Polar Park just three months earlier. Breaking the seven year streak, and avenging Apponequet Baseball their victory this Friday lifted up the community. 

The Lakers brought the same energy to last week’s game against the Falmouth Clippers on their own turf under the lights with a 19-8 victory.

On September 9th 2026, the Apponequet Lakers Varsity Soccer team lost a tough battle to the Fairhaven Blue Devils in a 0-1 loss. The game started at 3:45 and the Lakers and the Blue Devils came out in a great defensive shape. The game was a defensive slugfest in the first half with both teams struggling to find a good shot on net. 

Drew Carvalho racked up 7 crucial saves and kept the game alive. He was even nominated as South Coast Athlete of the Week for his stellar defensive effort. Fairhaven’s goalkeeper, Jackson Hooley, locked in with ease. He had already shut out a team earlier that week and this was his second time doing so. 

The second half is when the tables finally turned. A free kick scored by Steve Mouratidis, assisted by teammate Dan Burgess with 11 minutes left, secured a goal for the Blue Devils. The Lakers fought hard to come back, but could not generate clean shots on net. The shut out loss made Lakers Coach Tom Couet want to improve the “attacking phase.” This game was Apponequet’s first game of the season which made their record 0-1. This was Fairhaven's second game of the 2026 season, which made their record 2-0. The Lakers improved after this, winning 2-1 against Bourne on September 14th.
